About the Paver Calculator

The Paver Calculator gives the number of pavers for a patio, walkway or driveway from the area and the individual paver size, plus a waste allowance for edge cuts. A straight-edged rectangle in running bond wastes little; a herringbone pattern, a curved edge or a circle kit wastes more. The compacted base and the bedding sand under the pavers are separate — see the Road Base and Paver Sand calculators.

What you enter

  • Area length
  • Area width
  • Paver length
  • Paver width
  • Waste allowance — 5% for a running-bond rectangle; 10%+ for a herringbone, a curved edge or a circle kit.

What you get back

  • Paved area — the exact result of the calculation.
  • Pavers needed — shown as the exact figure and, separately, a recommended figure with your waste allowance added.

The formula, a worked example, the assumptions behind it and the sources are shown in full below the calculator.
